In July of 1965 the Federal Communications Commission allocated Channel 26 to University of Omaha (OU) educational television with the call letters KYNE-TV (Know Your Nebraska Educational Television). Channel 26 was under the sponsorship of MOEBA, the Metropolitan Omaha Educational Broadcasting Association. Construction of the 407-foot KYNE-TV tower began in August of 1965 and was completed the following October. The tower was located south of the OU Engineering building (now the University of Nebraska at Omaha, College of Public Affairs and Community Service). KYNE-TV and the tower were formally dedicated in March of 1966. KYNE-TV Chief Engineer George Ragan (left) and Station Manager Paul Borge (right) stand beneath the new broadcast tower.
